there's some geezer rolling around Syracuse in a MINT 91-92 red caprice; I mean MINT. The car looks so darn nice sometimes I feel like stopping at his house and putting dibs on it for when he kicks the bucket... contract.gif

there's a lot of that going around...seems everytime I snap my neck around and think "Hey, nice car!" there's some old fossil or other paleontologic relic behind the wheel and you just see a hat sticking up over the dashboard and knuckles on the wheel...I think sometimes that's why I haven't gotten in any trouble in this car yet...cops aren't expecting it. I can only imagine what it's like in a Roadmaster Sedan...

this picture cracked me up because I put "old man car" into Google and this is the very first image to come up!! an old fogey in a 94 Caprice!

Shhh! I am "trying" to sell it to try and keep a person I know (live with) happy. I am very glad it only went for $821.00 that means I can keep it. I promised my wife I would try and sell it. I was pretty confindent it would not reach the $6,500 reserve. tongue.gif Now that we have these....

No, it's for when they see each other neked! Did anyone see http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/ShowMainServlet/showid-24727/ recently? Think SNL except with Jeff Foxworthy as host and redneck themes. They did a parody of rescue 911 where a teenager accidentally saw his grandma in the bathroom sans clothing.. he went blind. yikes.gif

Seriously though, it's because wraparound sunglass are so darn practical, and most geezers don't give a dump.gif what they look like anymore. I've always been frustrated by "trendy" sunglasses that are super small and so if you look any direction other than straight ahead, you get bright light sneaking around the sides of the glass and your pupils get blasted. You won't catch me wearing wraparounds while I'm walking around at E-town, but if I'm on the way back, I'll be sportin' em!

The MINI is hers (kinda) and the Equinox will be my daily driver in a couple of months when the McCabe family increases by 1 in March. I figured driving an infant around in an old police car with no A/C and that suspension would suck.

I've noticed since I've had my Caprice that people tend to tell me the comings and goings of other Caprices and Impala's they see around...good thing that doesn't happen with my pickup or that would be all I ever hear. There's more pickup trucks than teeth in my town.

DW you'd fit right in in Corinth...(thats not a compliment).

I keep seeing an SS on the Stony Creek road..asked my uncle who it was ,and he said he didn't know but had seen it himself!

Stony Creek--population 75ish!
Have seen the guy twice now,in passing,he looks at me like wheres this guy coming from....and I do the same! biggrin.gif

Next time I'll turn around and see if I can meet up with him.

Strange thing is I see quite a few SS rolling around Saratoga....and none of them seem to wave or care ....theres more than a few people who dont know what they are driving...or at least dont have the love for them most of us do!

Or are we just geeks that spend way too much time thinking/talking about a car!? sad.gif
Theres one clown that deliberately ignores me when he see's me coming...I wave to be friendly...he turns his head and waits for me to go away..................I hope to see him at the street light some day....He'll get a good long look at my tail lights....I'll toss him some ear plugs first...as a courtesy gesture!! lildevil.gif lildevil.gif

Chris, Chris, Chris.... banghead.gif

Infants have survived for thousands of years without A/C and with suspensions much harsher than yours... I can tell you from experience that you CAN drive an infant around in an old police car with no A/C and "that" suspension! SUVs be damned!!! Do not give in!!!! Old 9c1s are the perfect baby hauler! rockon.gif

You think I'm kidding but this one time, at band camp, no wait... at the end of our street I "pulled out smartly" (quite smartly indeed) with the wife and baby aboard and while I was getting a dirty look from Kim, our baby girl was laughing her a$$ off! Went over to check the 9c1's out for you all.

The 95 Lt1 has 119,000 miles on it.
Has been in Town department for the last few years other than Police Service.

The 92 9c1 350 was at the Town Library for the last few years.
Around 92,000 miles.

Just placed a low bid on the 95 for the Hell of it.
I would die it it went for that cheap yikes.gif and I won the bid

Brenda is committing me to Psche ward for evaluation.
Not sure where the new 95 will go if I win laugh.gif

One of you guys maybe able to buy this cruiser for what I paid for it.

Man, both sets of tranny line fittings on my b-bodies started leaking after I replaced the trannies on them, the 9c1 immediately and the RMw a few weeks later. They leak right where they screw into the trans. I tried to tighten the 9c1 and that slowed the leak but didn't stop it. Do I need to replace the lines or can I just teflon them or something?

you should keep driving it until you have a real problem with it or else you might end up creating some other problems from the car sitting. Even if you spin a bearing you're not going to put a window in the block. PS - Isn't Craig still driving around years later on that Tahoe motor you thought was going to blow up any day?

You're right John, the sky is falling in and the world is going to end someday, better not mess with fate!!

Jim, I guess you were right, Brenda wears the pants and John wears the skirts!!

John, ask Brenda what skirts, you know, color? ruffles? long/short? pleats?, that you would look best in. We want good looking cheerleaders on the sidelines!!

No John, I don't believe you, that you would or will ever join us on the track.

Oh and Wutzer, I raced ny STOCK SS for 8 years without ever having ANY mechanical failures. And of course, you seem to forget about the wonderful B-body community that has never turned their back on someone in need of some help.

Brenda cannot be the monster that you make her out to be??!! An occasional race with a stock car shouldn't break anyone's bank!! Heck, you probably do more stupid thinks on the streets than you would on the track.

I guess this is all for not and I should give up on this. I've seen pussy whipped guys before but never this bad.

John, maybe I've been too hard on you. I forget about my sensitivity training sometimes and fail to catch myself.

My only point was that you talk a big line about hot rodding, tearing up the streets, blowing some rice burner off, un-caging the wild man Wutzer!! I would think that a for a guy that loves the "sport" so much, that a stroll down the track, especially at an event that YOUR club is sponsoring, would be quite appropriate.

John, you sure are dramatical with all your BS and your baseless concerns of going down the track once and a while. If you have had so much trouble with your cars, assuming that you know how to take care of them, well then I have to bow to the master of lemons. There is no other explanation for all your trouble. You make it sound like the B-bodies are Fix Or Repair Daily. John, they are not, when properly maintained will usually take quite the beating, as I can attest to.

OK John, everyone is probably thinking I am way over board here, so I'll stop.

I do enjoy the cheerleading that you have done at the tracks and would hate to see that change. I apologize if I have said something offensive.

See you at LVD.

Why hasn't anyone stated the obvious?

How can you have the money to buy 15 cop cars but no money to fix a tranny?

Stop buying cars and keep some money on reserve in case you break anything!

John, I heard you don't even drive your SS much if at all anymore. Why? Did it turn to gold? All these people act like these cars are so frickin valuable. They are not $150,000 Porsches ladies, they are CHEVIES! Cars made so the working man can go fast and have fun. They are TO BE DRIVEN, not preserved like a mummy. Plus, since every other asshole has a 3000 miles original SS with the plastic still on the seats and the sticker still in the window, any of you losers you park your SS and drive a 9C1 are completely insane. It ain't gonna be worth shit.

Drive the car you really like. If you fuck it up, GET ANOTHER ONE! My 95 SS burned to the ground. And one year later it won the ECIRS championship and looked good doing it!

BTW, it's actually less abuse on the car at the track then if you abuse it on the street IF you really drive like the madman you say you are. Plus it's safer. At the track, your lane is 4 cars wide. Plus, there is a burnout area that is wet so you don't stress the driveline heating 'em up. The only place you have MORE stress on your car is the launch, and that's ONLY if the line is prepped so good you don't spin. So you put a lot of stress on the rear. Big whoop, an Eaton posi is much better than that crappy Auburn anyway.

PLUS, in the 1/4 a relatively stock car won't even get up to 95 MPH in the 1/4 mile. A lot less stress on working parts than the 120 MPH blasts you speak about.

So what's the real story?

Posted by: BigKahuna13 Apr 10 2005, 10:25 PM

I mean really...do I have to do EVERYTHING for you hilljacks?

Posted by: sherlock9c1 Apr 11 2005, 06:56 AM

Just for the record John, when I disassembled my 9c1's tranny a few weeks ago with 17k and 100 runs on it, the inside was in perfect shape. There weren't even any fractures developing on the sunshell. There were a few minor potential problems caused by STREET DRIVING which I am fixing, but even my local tranny mechanic friend said that drag-racing a 9c1 puts almost no wear on the transmission.

By the way, if you are entertaining the idea of doing this again, you may want to contact Jon Thorn ([email protected]) from ECIRS about getting #160 permanently assigned to you. I think it may still be available.

I'm sorry you couldn't stay for the bracket racing and the awards ceremony, especially since UNYISSO finally officially received their club charter. John,

I seriously doubt your 9C1 tranny is original to the car. That being said, there shouldn't be any reason you can't get the servo cover moved inward to disengage the retaining ring.

Look back a few months ago on the forum and see the suggestions we had for Dave S. regarding tips/hints about installing a Transgo kit. Anyone can do this.

Gary

Posted by: sherlock9c1 Jun 20 2005, 09:42 AM

You need to get a small #2 or #1 flat-head screwdriver in the lower of the two slots in the round lip of the servo at a 45-degree angle to the servo so that the blade is exactly aimed at the gap between the ring and the housing, then hit it with a hammer. That will pop the ring up and then you can just use the screwdriver to work the rest of the ring out. Then, cut the rubber o-ring with a razor knife and pull it out to make removal of the servo cap easier (aka POSSIBLE).

Large pry bar moved the out cup PB on the outside can never hurt but pry bar will make it move - then insert small flat blade screwdriver - I didn't need to hammer nothing. Look for the post Gary mentioned his tips saved me a lot of cussing - first time I'd seen the inside of a tranny since shop class in 1976 all went well and she shifts nice!! - JUST DO IT

OK story time.

It's Father's Day (recently) and my wife & 3 kids decide to take me out for breakfast. We go to a 50's style car diner in Tyngsboro MA, one that I've driven by many times but never actually visted. We go, we eat, we start driving home.

On the way home, wife.com wants to stop to get coffee at a Mobil station that's enroute. We pull into the Mobil station (in the Fjord minivan btw) and she goes in to get coffee. Meanwhile I do the window-cleaner job on the minivan while the kids make faces at me. Wife returns and as we are about to pull out I yell "STOP!" then "Kids, look over there" as I point to my left.

To my left is a new Lamborghini Murcielago just exiting the carwash. It's day-glo orange (that's my term, Mopar would have called it something else during the late 60s). The car and color are way beyond cop-magnet status. We pull up next to it to give the kids (and me) a better look. The driver's door is open (swiveled UP, because that's how they open --- so this was no kit car). The driver was cleaning off the excess water with several chamois. I roll down the window and tell the driver that my kids like the car (and so do I). He says "Have them come look at it."

He proceeds to open all the doors and the rear lid (revealing the 6.3 liter 12-cylinder engine --- again, this is no kit car). He toggles the button that opens/closes the bat-ear vents (that supply extra cooling, one on each side of the vehicle, just aft of each door). I tell the kids not to touch anything (while I drool). We all walk around the car and gape. The engine is idling at what seems like 1000 rpm, and it doesn't sound like anything from Detriot. The tires are as deep as my waist is wide. I didn't even look at the metric size ---- but I'm sure one tire cost more than my 93 Caprice. The top of the car seems lower than my pants are high, and it's amazing just how forward you have to sit with all that engine/transaxle located aft.

We thank the owner and walk back to our car. I remark to my kids that the car cost more than I and mom make combined in one year. The guy next to us at the gas pump (in another similarly non-descript domestic sedan) remarks that the INSURANCE for that car is more than he makes in year. It was a humbling experience standing that close to that car, a car that'll get close to 200 mph, and then to climb back into the 3.8 liter v6 minivan for the drive home. As we drove back I wondered:

A. What does the owner do for a living, to be able to afford the car?

B. Is it a requirement to have an equally-exotic supermodel-type girlfriend if you own a car like that? (The driver was alone btw).

C. How much maintenance is there for both A & B, mental and fiscal? (wife.com said I couldn't afford any of it, nevermind the cost of the divorce/alimony even if I had the car+exotic-wife)

D. Would he have taken me for a ride, had wife.com played the father's day card?

Posted by: sherlock9c1 Jun 27 2005, 12:02 PM

Definitely a neat car. I like the way they smoothed out the styling compared to the Diablo.

I'm glad I'm already married, because if I was single and ever got stinkin' rich and people knew about it, you wouldn't be able to trust anyone. I'd want someone to love me for who I am, not my money.

I aint no ford guy, but since the 9 C1 are just about antiquated, I might make the move. I know the 4.6 aint no 5.7, but what can you do...

If I make this move, it will probably be the end of next year...

Johnny, If I had the extra cash, i would hold on to the CRUISER. I might go down to Mark, and take a P 71 for a little cruise.

If this happens, this will be a sad day for me.

I really like my machine, even though I had some problems with it. She is strong, and pulls away like thunder when you need that burst of energy.

I have put some $$$$$ in her, but I have enjoyed every penny of it.

We will see what the future has to offer..

Hope to see ya soon.....................

Yeah, 6 1/2 years and a quarter million miles- I am getting ready for another daily driver- GM, V-8 RWD, but 2-DR with the LS1- I will keep the Coprice, maybe do the winter car/summer car thing, but I stayed with GM this time, seduced by the 310 factory (under)rated H.P.
Test drove an '01 Z28, and it made the Caprice feel old and slow. Well, it is old, but it's not really slow- unless you compare it to a lighter, newer, more powerful car- I promised myself another sports car before I croak, I guess this is it...
Already hearing the comments about a mid-life crisis, hell, that was 10 years ago! I have to pick Dave W's brain about F-body experience- I'm a frickin' newbie all over again. Almost a virgin-

The car owes you nothing slap new seals in the timing cover and keep running it. Why mess around with rebuilding a car that you say has cancer.

Just make her get down the road again.

I take it you got the seals installed in it already? I had bought that kit and then i got anouther set of those gaskets when i had tobuy a complete seal kit for my machine work and then i got a new timing cover that i needed so i had two extra sets.
