This started recently...I drive 250 miles up to Mass. I got off the highway and stopped at a stop sign, and when I went to accelerate again, there was a resonance during 1st gear. It sounded like a whine, then it went away in second gear. After that, everything was good. I drained the pan, and there wasn't any more material than I'd expect. (Only 79,000 on this 4L60E, by the way!). Changed the filter and the fluid with some Castrol High Mileage trans fluid. I've been driving it around, it shifts normally, but every once in a while it will make this whine while accelerating in first gear from stop. No, I'm not beating on it either. Any idea what could be causing this? A guy on the Impala SS forum said his just did the same thing and died 2 weeks later. Another clue might be that the torque converter doesn't seem to be locking up in 3rd gear, though it usually seems to in OD. IDK...any ideas? |

Jeff,
Good hearing from you. I just got back from the South Jersey Shore with my family this past weekend. I would contact member Joel Banyai with your Tranny question. He has rebuilt many of these 4l60e transmissions for our vehicles, and really understands what is going on with them. He is the drivetrain moderator on the Impala SS Forum as Sherlock 9c1 http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/mem...er&t=232899 He is also a member of https://www.inegma.net/mb/index.php?showuser=119 Your Caddy is still looking good at the Rix Summer Slam Englishtown NJ.
