OK I am ready to kill this truck. I spend 4 hrs pounding on rotors, filing badly cast pads to get them to fit, and my last duty is the starter. How the %^&$%#* do you get the nuts off the solinoid. I have tried open end, closed end, claw foot & sockets I can not get the nuts off. There isnt enough room for pliers through the wheel well. When you drop the starter the wires are too short/tied to drop down. One of the metal brackets/nuts to the wire hold downs is just spinning, so I can get more play in the wires to drop it. HOW THE FRACK DO I GET THE WIRES OFF TO REMOVE THE STARTER???

PART II

OK so what seemed like a classic won't start, the solinoid is gone, wasn't. I finally got the starter in, and still it won't start. It's spinning great. You can definately tell the old started had slowed down a lot. Here is what I have been able to figure out, can anyone shed some light? I am stumped.

Starter spins great
No Codes
Spark at #1 wire

Within the last year/year and a half if has gotten a new battery, coil, cap, rotor, wires & plugs. You turn the key and the new starter spins like a son of a B, but it will not turn over. Is there a sensor or something I should be looking at. I was so much happier with points & carbs. It is so much easier to figure out!

"starter spins, but won't turn over"?
You mean the engine turns over but won't fire?
Can you hear the fuel pump??? I had a 98 blazer, and the FP went, so I put in an aftermarket one, and it wouldn't build enough pressure to start it after a few months.... I actually had to use ether to start it if the engine was cool... once it ran, it kept running and drove fine (actually ended up driving it across country that way) bonk.gif The kicker was I didn't bother checking fuel pressure because I knew it had a new fuel pump, and I could hear it running when I turned the key on.....

Oh Man Sweet....that post makes me cringe. I put in a new FP about 2 years ago. Sounds real familar. Unfortunately I don't have a preasure tester. For now I think it will be off to the shop, and a fuel preasure tester might be the next new tool.

I will post in a few days with the results.

PS - I hate admitting defeat.

FP gauges are not very expensive... IIRC mine was like $30 at either autozone or advance auto... Much cheaper than an hour of a mechanic's time... the only catch is a mechanic can test about a dozen things in that same hour wink.gif
