OK I know this is the wrong car but, I have dropped the tank once almost 2yrs ago. It was a Huge PITA then, and I don't want to do it again. I have read in a few spots about people cutting holes in the floor to get at it. Has anyone here done it? Did it work OK? Does anyone here have nay thoughts on this?

If you have a good idea where it is, drilling a pilot hole and using a sawzall should work. But then you have a hole in your floor near the exhaust, in an area it'd be better not to weld in.
I've always used a floor jack to drop and raise tanks when replacing the fuel pump, it works well. I'd rather do that than deal with a hole in the floor of the cargo area. If you replaced the pump 2 years ago I'd take a look at the harness first, could just be a flaky connector- a guy I work with had that happen on both of his Blazers. |

Lots of people have done this on the F-bodies, the Camaro/Firebird. Many write-ups for that all over the web- never saw one for a Blazer, but it wouldn't surprise me-
Instead of welding, most people make a new plate, larger than the opening, and pop rivet or screw it down- 10-year-old tank hangers, straps, hardware- if it has been run insalt country, those fasteners will be a joy to remove- probably several will strip or break. Good luck, either way- take pics- |

I was thinking cut a nice square hole. Outside of the car weld it to a bigger square. Drill a few holes, seet it in place with a heavy layer of some sort of sealant and pop rivit it in place. My concern in dropping the tank again is breaking the plastic connections for the fuel since you only get about 2"s of extra hose to play with, and over all it is just a suck job. Plenty of cars have access plates why not the Blazer or other GM cars.
Still debating I will look further and keep you all advised. |

You may wish to look into releasing the fuel line(s) from the retaining clip(s) along the frame rail.
I have not had the pleasure of replacing a fuel pump in a Blazer, but I did drop the tank for a fuel pump/sending unit in my '01 S10 Crew Cab. I found releasing the fuel lines from the frame rail clips provided me with enough 'slack' to work with. |

All right I couldn't do it. I couldn't cut a hole in the floor of my wife's Blazer. I was affraid something wouldn't seal right and my wife would get a ton of road noise in the truck. If it had been in the trunk I would have done it no problem. I didn't have the time or a helper so off it went to my mechanic. $382 later it has a new pump, (little did I know the one I put in 2 years ago, an Airteck SUCKS per my mechanic) He basically got me a pump at cost $265 and 1.5hr labor. I am not complaining at all. He is always more then fair. If you are South of Boston, and need a good honest reliable guy give Nick's Pitstop in Abington a call. He also has a small store with a bunch of NASCAR stuff for sale. He is right next door to the Abington Firehouse on Route 18. 781-878-5819
