Let me know when you want to yank that puppy!
dservati
Thank Luc - I want to pull it and then sandblast it before I give it to you - I'll paint it when I get it back. But had to do the wifes brakes and rotors today and play dad!

I'm looking at a Detroit True-Trac rather than an Eaton. The True-Trac uses all gears like Rob's Torsen. I've swapped e-mails with a few guys that have the True-Trac and they pound on them and like them.

I was going to buy from Mike @ NoLimits Motor Sports he has a nice package for 780 to your door. But since I want the True-Trac and AAM gears (I've heard that Motive & Richmond can wine) I'll probably need to buy the parts separately. Know a good place to get AAM gears?
-Dave
sherlock9c1
Try Reider Racing.
lotsacars
Dave - I'd hold off on sandblasting just yet. Otherwise I'm going to be getting your freshly-blasted housing all fingerprinty (technical term for dirty). I'd just blast and paint when I'm done.

I'll poke around at work for a source for AAM gears. One of our vendors may offer them. Give me a day or so.

Oh, and I knew you were going to paint it tongue.gif
dservati
Thanks Luc!

Yeah - can't R&R something without paint'in it!!

Mike at nolimits said that the AAM 3.73s no longer accept the ABS Reluctor - so when you check see if your contacts have some NOS (new old stock) evidently they recently changed but did not change part numbers.

Other wise what Gears Do you all here recommend? Motive? Richmond?
larstonx
Just for kicks you could get a price from Dal. Or buy me a decent set of 4.10s and you can have my AAM 3.73s and reluctor biggrin.gif
dservati
Paul R. recommends Motive, Mike sells Yukon now - Paul also recommends a solid spacer vs. crush sleeve, but I read on a thunder racing site:
Ratech also manufactures solid pinion bearing spacers, or "crush collars." These are excellent for cars that "shock" their rear ends extremely hard during launching, which is common with manual transmissions. The solid pinion spacer will allow your rear end setup to remain constant after repeated hard launches. (Because this piece is setup slightly different than a standard crush collar, please ensure that your gear installer is familiar with installing solid pinion spacers.)

- Luc any guidance here?
lotsacars
No experience with a solid pinion spacer - only crush sleeves. May take a little longer to set-up as you'd have to experience with shimming the solid collar until the correct thickness was achieved. Since yours is a weekend racer/daily driver I wouldn't bother, but we can do it if you want.

I've also heard USGears are good (you've probably heard of Strange, same company). I actually saw a recommendation on ISSF from Bob Shirley - the guy that makes the custom reluctors - for this brand.

As long as you have a recommendation from a reliable source that a particular brand is quiet then you should be fine. I didn't come up with much at work as we buy much different gear sets - the ring gear is typically the size of your steering wheel biggrin.gif
dservati
Okay - I may just go with the Yukons from Nolimit Motor sports as the total package w/shipping is less than the other places I have checked out and others have recommended. If I order Monday will be here Friday 6th or 9th.

BlackCaprice
Dave,

Have you thought of painting the the rear before putting the gears in?

The reason I mention this is when I have seen people sandblast items the sand gets into places you never think it could. Realize there is just the possibility of sand getting into the rearend.

I am guessing you would paint the rearend gloss or a semi-gloss, which would not be hard to clean any grease off.

Just glad to hear you are getting the rearend back together.

Coming up fast! Dave, bringing the wagon?
SSweet9C1
who all's going tomorrow night??? IF we make it, we'll have to bring the wagon (obviously not the 9C1)
Jonathan
larstonx
I'll be there. Hopefully my tires will still hold air. Rob said he was in.
dservati
Alan - I blasted and primed it before Luc took it to work on- I'll top coat it when I get it back!

J & J - not going down tomorrow especially with the wagon - at least not until the SS is done - Have fun!!

Naw just - 223,000 miles and radiator still leaks barely got past the tech inspection last summer I don't need to be driving the '63 to work everyday!
Also - I gotta do some work errands Wend night for an event we got going Thursday.
SSweet9C1
I'm afraid we most likely aren't going to make it... had late nights the last two nights, with early mornings and Caroline has to work late again tonight... if the white car were back together I'de bring it i don't care how tired... need to race! lol sad.gif
Jonathan
SSweet9C1
looks like it's going to be raining anyway... maybe next week smile.gif
Jonathan
Roadkill
Rained out!!
larstonx
Shee-it! Glad I checked first. Hopefully better luck next week!
larstonx
Weather looks good for tomorrow. Anyone else planing on going?
Roadkill
Hamiltons are in!
Roadkill
What a great night for racing. Jonathan with faster times, Jeremiah with faster times, Dave S. first time ever with the Bonniville (63) and the track guys loved that car.

Fastest I could get was 13.03 or something like that and that is with a tranny that just won't shift when its suppose to. I think I have had it for now with 4L60E's. Hopefully I can put the 350 turbo in before the weekend and LVD. The car should have been running into the 12's easily.
SSweet9C1
hey hey! Thanks Dave for letting me use the tires!
and thanks everyone for the advice... first run, 14.7X bascially kept ticking tenths off till we got into the 14.4 range... then I cut a 14.178 riding solo.... it was also after the car sat for a while...
I think the main thing I need to do is figure out how to hook up.... I think some stock SS springs would help, as well better LCA's, a line lock and DR's

Hopefully Scott P will be at LVD this weekend, so we can get the tune dialed in a bit...
thanks again everyone!!!
Jonathan
larstonx
On the way home I heard on the radio Dave broke out by over a tenth? That Bonnie can still haul!
SSweet9C1
looks like it's done raining for the day... who's up for a trip to the track tonight????
Caroline and Jonathan IN
SSweet9C1
skeeeeeeratch that... still raining here, talked to J. still raining there...
next week it is!

Went to the track Friday night to test the RR's, springs, and new posi. Only 67 cars showed - it was like having the track to ourselves got 9 runs in and that was making our first run at 7:14 taking two 20 minute breaks for food and cool down, and multiple Sammy potty breaks smile.gif

Had a new personal run of 14.192, temp was 73* humidity 61%. Took out a sweet Nissan Z 350
Compared to previous best of 14.343, temp of 62* humidity 51%.

My 60' times still suck - best was a 2.012 with no rev up and just mashed the gas - this is with M/T streets?
Anyone have suggestions on launch techniques to reduce my 60' times (besides 4.10's)?

Car felt stronger at the mid-range she didn't "laydown" at the end of the track in fact a couple of times against faster car's I could feel us closing the gap - since getting out of the traps still stinks.
I still have the original knock module and with Rob's Hypertech we were reading 6* of retard at the intial WOT - wondering if a LT4 module would help?

Anyways pretty easy way to shave off almost two tenths of our ET especially in 10* warmer weather.
Roadkill
Dave, could you or Nick tell if you were spinning off the line at all? If not, at full weight and no engine mods except the rockers, I think the only thing that might help at this point is a higher stall convertor. The knock module will help just not sure how much off the line.

Did you adjust your air bags?

Skinnies
Knock Module
Lighter rims
aluminum drifeshaft

larstonx
Why didn't you try loading the converter? But my 60' times stink too...
lotsacars
I agree with J - try loading up the converter a bit. Especially with the M/T Streets. I load mine up on street tires at full air pressure and they don't spin. Granted you have mods that would make them easier to spin, but it's still worth trying. I'd load it up and let 'er rip!

(Warning: The above was written by a total newb that's been the the strip less than a dozen times so take it for what it's worth - not much! burnout.gif )
dservati
I tried my normal 1500RPM launch, 2000RPM launch, mash and go launch (best time), and 3000RPM launch - ranges were 2.022 @ 1500, 2.044 @ 2000, 2.012 mash & go , 2.078 @ 3000.

Air bags: 10psi on driver side 15psi on passenger side. Slicks @ 16PSI, front tires at 40 PSI.
SSweet9C1
Dave, I seriously think you got a bum set of tires... when we ran them on my car the best 60' was with you driving and it was a 1.98 or something... @ LVD with my cheap ass 275 60 15" tires I ran 1.8X's all day long... the only other change was the suround on the SSRI...
what I'm saying is I don't think it's the driver.. I think it's the tires... maybe they are slightly too hard of a compound????
talk to Gary M... I heard through the grapevine (lol) that he bought a brand new set of DR's and couldn't hook worth damn, so he went back to the old DR's that had a couple seasons on them...

I don't think I can go this wednesday but if not weds. then DEFINATELY friday night (going crazy... haven't raced in weeks!!) if you want to make a couple runs on the DR's then on my tires (we can switch) just for the hell of it, I am game...
Jonathan

Nice improvement, Dave!

Any chance the TC is slipping?

Just checking in with the RAISSE crew - I'd like to go to NYIRP but will be traveling from Canadiagua (we are having an off site meeting there) and was wondering if anyone in Rochester was going to go. If you are would you be willing to drive by my house to pick Nick up and I'd meet you at the track? Cause if I have to go to Rochester first I wouldn't make it to NYIRP till 7:30 or 8 and that would not be worth it.

Let me know. Either post or call me at home - we are in the book SERVATI 31 Watchman CT.

Thanks!

YAY!!!! I am a jackass.. for somereason I was thinking tomorrow was june, and I had firefighter training... NOPE!!! Jonathan and Caroline IN!!!! for wednesday.... WOOOHOOOO!!!!

did i mention WOOOOHOOOO!!!!
Jonathan
larstonx
Not sure if I'll make it there or not.
SSweet9C1
Congrats Rob for the WIN!!!!

quick break down... VERY inconsistant tonight.. white lightning ran everything from 13.75-14.25 traction SUCKED my RT's were fairly consistant... but none were great...

night started out with either an overheating car or a faulty sensor.. so to be on the safe side I pulled the Tstat and cut the guts out of it (broke my diagonal cutters, but was able to file through it) that made the gauge read a bit cooler, but still at 3/4 of the way to hot (much better than way in the red) i'll get a new temp sensor tomorrow, also i'll prolly flush the cooling system when I do the temp sensor.. just to be safe... I need to plug the laptop into the car to see if the PCM is reading hot too...

I dunno how the heck it worked, but I got the by run because I was the odd one out, so Dave had to run a guy who I believe was cutting near perfect lights all night... not sure how they decided, but the guy used a deck of cards..

In round two I was taken out by a mudstang, because I broke out by over a tenth!!! dialed 13.88 and ran a 13.78 aka my second best time of the night.... beat the guy over the line by half a car length but i had my worst RT of the night.... sad.gif
anyway bed time.. maybe if I get the car sorted out we'll go again friday...

I had to learn that lesson once... hopefully it will ONLY be once - if you pass your opponent, cut your losses.
